Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez has reportedly informed the club that he prefers a move to Barcelona amid growing rumours linking him with the Catalan side.

Barcelona are preparing to sign the Argentine striker in the coming weeks following the expected departure of veteran forward Robert Lewandowski. Alvarez has enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 season, contributing 36 goal involvements with 28 goals and 8 assists, making him one of the most valuable attackers in Europe this season.

The 26-year-old is seen as the ideal replacement for Lewandowski, who has arguably delivered his best campaign since joining the Catalan giants. Alvarez’s quality, work rate and finishing ability make him a strong option to lead Barcelona’s attack for the future.

Barcelona continue strengthening their squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 period, while rivals Real Madrid are yet to make any major additions to their team.

Despite the transfer rumours, neither Atletico Madrid nor Barcelona have officially confirmed any agreement regarding the player’s future.
