Chelsea F.C. have officially appointed Xabi Alonso as their new head coach on a four-year contract following days of speculation surrounding his future.

The Spanish tactician had recently been linked with the Blues, and both parties eventually reached an agreement shortly after Chelsea’s disappointing FA Cup defeat.

Speaking after his appointment, Xabi Alonso said:
“Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in world football and it fills me with immense pride to become manager of this great club.

“From my conversations with the ownership group and sporting leadership, it is clear that we share the same ambition. We want to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies.

“There is great talent in the squad and huge potential at this football club, and it will be my great honour to lead it. Now the focus is on hard work, building the right culture and winning trophies.”

During his managerial career, Xabi Alonso enjoyed huge success with Bayer 04 Leverkusen, guiding the club to their first-ever Bundesliga title and establishing them as one of the strongest teams in Europe.

He also led Leverkusen to an unbeaten domestic campaign, winning praise for his attacking football, tactical discipline, and ability to develop young players.

Before joining Chelsea, Alonso also managed Real Madrid Castilla, where he worked with several promising young talents and gained recognition for his modern coaching philosophy.

His arrival at Chelsea is expected to bring a new tactical identity and fresh ambition as the club looks to return to competing for major trophies.
