South African actress and media personality Pearl Thusi has opened up about why she has been hesitant about marriage, revealing that her childhood experiences shaped her views on marriage.
Speaking candidly, Thusi said she developed a fear of marriage after witnessing the struggles her mother endured while raising three children. She also blamed her late mother’s difficult marriage for contributing to her suffering.
“I run away from marriage a lot because, for a long time, I believed that my mom kind of died because she was married,” Thusi said.
The 38-year-old star alleged that her father was abusive towards her mother and that their relationship was marked by fear and emotional distress.
“My father was abusive to my mother,” she said.
Thusi went on to describe some of the experiences her mother allegedly endured during the marriage.
“Whether it was infidelity, or her being in a car with him in the middle of the night because he thought she was up to something, he would take her into the middle of the bush and point a gun at her,” she added.
The actress explained that witnessing such experiences while growing up had a lasting impact on her perception of marriage and long-term relationships.
