Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly decided to part ways with co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze following the expiration of their contracts.
Amakhosi reportedly chose not to renew the duo’s contracts despite guiding the club to a third-place finish in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
“We want to extend our gratitude to the coaches for their dedication and contribution, and wish them all the best in their future,” the club said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
It appears the club hierarchy is aiming to appoint a new coach capable of challenging rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns after another trophyless campaign.
The coaching duo helped restore stability to a side that had struggled for consistency in recent years, with Kaizer Chiefs collecting 54 points and securing a return to continental football.
It marked a major improvement from their ninth-place finish in the 2024/25 season and was the club’s best league performance since the 2019/20 campaign.
Amakhosi, alongside Durban City, will represent South Africa in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Despite the progress made under the two co-coaches, the club’s management reportedly wants greater success, especially following the dominance of Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in recent seasons.
Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr had remained undecided about the duo’s future over the weekend.
“Well, I think now everyone can see the solid defensive structure we’ve had and how we’ve achieved one of our best goal differences in many years,” Motaung Jr told SuperSport TV.
“Everyone behind the scenes has worked very hard and the co-coaches themselves deserve a lot of credit.
“The players deserve credit as well, and so does our recruitment department, because everything has been a culmination of hard work and planning.”
