Thomas Tuchel has defended his decision to exclude Cole Palmer, Harry Maguire, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Phil Foden from the England national football team squad.
The leaked list of England players set to feature at the upcoming FIFA World Cup surfaced yesterday, leaving many supporters questioning why several top stars were left out.
UK media outlets spent hours trying to verify the leaked squad and understand the possible reasons behind the omissions, as Tuchel surprised many fans in a similar fashion to Carlo Ancelotti with the Brazil national football team.
The German coach clarified that his selections were based on players’ performances throughout the season. He specifically pointed out that Palmer had not been in good form compared to some of the players who were selected.
Speaking about the other omissions, Tuchel did not say much regarding Maguire, despite the defender enjoying one of his best seasons. However, he hinted that it was a difficult decision because of the availability of other players who had performed better and contributed more consistently this year.
