Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen insists that the team is focused on finishing in third position and is not concerned about the title race.
Petersen believes that maintaining third place will secure qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup, making it crucial for the team to collect as many points as possible.
“I think for us, the most important thing is that we’ve told ourselves we want to finish as high as possible. Obviously, we want to secure continental football for next season,” said Petersen, as per GOAL.
“Our main objective is to accumulate as many points as we can and finish the season strongly. I would say we’ve had a good run in the league compared to previous seasons.”
With Chiefs potentially playing a role in the title race, a positive result against Sundowns could boost Orlando Pirates in their pursuit of a first league title in 13 years.
Despite this, Petersen dismissed talk of being “kingmakers,” stressing that the team’s focus remains internal.
“I know everyone is talking about us having a say in the title race, but for us, it’s about improving where we can, staying consistent, and making sure we get maximum points from our remaining fixtures,” he said.
“It’s not about deciding who wins the league. It’s about finishing the season strongly and securing continental football for next season.”
