European Parliament was in discussion about Tundu Lissu arrest, human rights breach in Tanzania against opposition politicians, human rights defenders, LGBTQI+ activists, journalists and civil society organisations.
In their resolution, European parliament urge Tanzanian government to restore Chadema’s full participation in the October 2025 elections, engage in dialogue with all political parties on electoral reform, respect the political parties’ rights and guarantee free and fair elections.
The European Parliament also urges Tanzanian government to abolish the death penalty and commute all death sentences.
The European Union put Tanzania into discussion following letter from detainee politician and leader of main opposition of the country, Tundu Lissu, and human rights activists who have been vocal for promoting equality and freedom.
It is clear, the foreign organization has somehow reminded Tanzania government to maintain human rights and freedom act which is governed by constitution, as they decided early before the resolution to make few changes about ongoing Tundu Lissu’s trial.
On May 6, court grant a freedom of other people to witness the proceeding of Tundu Lissu’s treason lawsuit, following previous appealing after police intentionally breach human rights by beating some and prevent others who tried to appear before the court.
The court also allow Tundu Lissu to appear before the court during his treason trial, which once subjected into government interference as it was set to only proceeding in online virtual session while in prison.
These changes emerge after European parliament announced about its intention of discussing the aftermath of his case and its final amendment before things wet worse.
Based with thoughts shared by former government officials like Warioba, the judiciary system is interfered by executive system as it already prevails during the proceeding of Tundu Lissu trial, as police has shown force display to prevent people from entering a court, which is against the right and freedom governed by the constitution.
Second trouble caused by how Tundu Lissu case is proceeding, as court decided to use online virtual session for a suspect while in prison, which is intentionally avoiding a freedom of a suspect to discuss and interact at right time with his legal team.
Third trouble is what happen if the court find Tundu Lissu guilty, as Tanzania politics looks weird just like many other countries in Africa, due to fact that the minority that possess the power to hold the government use force and false pretenses intentionally to stay on position and brainwashing others who are either aren’t understand the aftermath or bribing just like old African who sold others into slavery.
European parliament sometime can discuss internal matters of developing countries due to fact that they’re most responsible in economic and social aspects, also fear to increase number of dependency if the government of these countries collapse.
