Social media divided over Soweto pupil’s crash

People divided following photos of school children who were involved in an accident circulated on social media showed them lying face down at the scene of the incident.

The accident appears to have happened in Rockville, Soweto yesterday morning.

The eight children were injured following a collision between a school transport vehicle and a Rea Vaya bus.

But people were not pleased that the photos were shared on social media.

Cecilia Makgopela wrote: “Al- mighty God will keep them safe. I hate this technology of cellphones with cameras or videos. People just take videos even when it’s not necessary. They don’t look at situations. I mean they can’t help you when you in danger, all they can do is take a video until you die.”

Lindiwe Sigasa said: “This is inhumane, taking pictures and just posting them here. It’s irresponsible.”

Marcia TheQueen Malatji posted: “Imagine a parent seeing this, not knowing the state of their child and having a heart attack! What happened to being sensitive?”

While a lot of people were against the photos being circulated, others felt it was necessary as it was a quick way to spread the news.

Florence Matela wrote: “For me personally there is absolutely nothing wrong with the whole matter. Stop being so sensitive about everything.

“The only thing that we can say is to pray for their recovery, nothing else. At least now you know that the children were involved in an accident.”

According to EMS paramedics 15 people with minor to moderate injuries were treated on the scene. The injured were taken to hospitals. MMC of Transport, Nonhlanhla Makhuba, urged drivers to be extra cautious and obey the rules of the road at all times.
