The leadership of Yanga under President Engineer Hersi Said has congratulated their compatriots Simba for winning their African Champions League away game against Vipers last Saturday, while also promising to advance to the quarter-finals of the African Confederation Cup this season.
Speaking after landing at the Julius Nyerere International Airport, the President of the club, Engineer Hersi Said, said that we congratulate Simba for the away win, but we congratulate our Yanga players and the whole club for the away draw which I can say, we were all aiming to get three points, but God’s plans were impossible.
“I congratulate our players because the situation on the road was not very good, the weather and the environment on the road, but we have shown how we have a strong team that can get results anywhere and with this enthusiasm I promise you that on the eighth day when we meet Real Bamako, we will continue to get good results,” said Hersi.
Simba beat Vipers 1-0 at St Mary’s Chitende Stadium, Entebbe in Uganda, and Yanga at the 26 Mars Stadium, Bamako in Mali, drew 1-1 against Real Bamako, in the African Confederation Cup.
The Information Officer of Yanga, Ali Kamwe, said that despite the draw they got, they have not given up because mathematically their team has a great chance to move forward in Group D of the championship.
“We thank God that we left Dar es Salaam safely and today, by God’s will, we have returned home safely. We left Dar with three points, we return with four points in our group, which means that as a club we have managed to collect one point away from home, so our numbers in the group ours are still good, let me just tell Yanga that his first big goal this year is to play in the quarter finals of the Federation Cup and according to the way the numbers are, everything is fine,” said Kamwe.
And the Chief Government Spokesman, Gerson Msigwa, on behalf of President Samia, congratulated Yanga, while urging the Tanzanian teams to continue doing well in the international championships and the promise is still there.
Yanga is now preparing for the FA Cup match on Friday this week against Prisons.
