Sundowns on Al Ahly turn ugly

Al Ahly must defeat Sudan’s Al-Hilal Omdurman and Cameroon’s Cotonsport in their last two group games to advance.

Highlights from Mamelodi Sundowns’ 5-2 victory over Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League group stages.

Ahmed Abdelkader and January addition Khaled Abdelfattah were both given the all-clear to play, giving Al Ahly a double boost before the game.

However, Mohamed Hany received the start at right-back as Mohamed Sherif and Percy Tau led Al Ahly’s attack, and the pair started on the sidelines.

The Red Devils got off to a bad start and gave Sundowns the lead after only four minutes thanks to a goal from Marcelo Allende.

It only took the visitors nine minutes to respond, with Ahmed Kendouci forcing a mistake from the defense and then setting up Mohamed Sherif for the equalizer.

After 24 minutes, Sundowns increased their pressure and scored again thanks to Themba Zwane, who was entirely unmarked inside the area.

Five minutes before halftime, Teboho Mokoena increased Sundowns’ lead with a long-range goal that startled Mohamed El-Shennawy in goal.
