Robyn Johannes open up on transfer links
Bidvest Wits defender, Robyn Johannes has been linked with a possible return to Cape Town City after coach Benni McCarthy openly expressed his desire to the media a few weeks ago, reported by KICKOFF.
The 32-year-old former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates centre-back joined The Clever Boys at the start of last season from The Citizens after signing a pre-contract.
However, having lost the services of key defender Taariq Fielies to medical complications, McCarthy is eager to lure the Cape Town-born man back home.
“Coach Benni’s wishes and everyone else’s wishes – we don’t always get what we wish for. But, you know, in football I’ve seen funnier things happen,” commented Johannes on the interest.
“You know anything is possible in this game – I’ve seen it, but him and the club Cape Town City are still very close to my heart and I’ve got so much love and respect for the coach, and that will never change.
“What happens in the next few weeks, we don’t know. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Asked whether there has been any persuasion coming from the former Bafana Bafana striker, Johannes responded: “I don’t think he has to do much persuading; you know, I have a contract with Bidvest Wits so that’s the only people he needs to persuade.
“But, like I say, it’s a club that I hold really close to my heart and we’ll see what happens in the next few weeks – anything is possible. I guess there’s still lots of time but my focus is on Bidvest at the moment and whatever happens beyond that is – I guess – we’ll wait and see.”
