The king and the heirs: Charles poses with William and George in new coronation portrait
The royal household has launched a new professional portrait offering King Charles III and the subsequent era of future kings.
The portrait is one of two newly launched images from the monarch’s coronation closing week.
In the image taken with the aid of coronation photographer Hugo Burnand in the Throne Room of Buckingham Palace, King Charles is seated in full royal regalia.
The Prince of Wales is located on the left, and younger Prince George is positioned on the right.
Burnand told Hello Magazine that he felt it was important to take this picture as he didn’t see any previous photos of the line of succession in his research of past coronations.
“While we have seen pictures of the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William and Prince George, never have we seen them in the throne room with all the regalia,” he explained.
He added: “There’s a lot of formality in that picture. But I think that I’ve managed to show the essence of the individuals at the same time, which to me makes it not just a historical document, but also a portrait.”
Prince George played an important role as one of king’s four pages of honour who accompanied him at the grand ceremony.
In a significant moment during the coronation ceremony the Prince of Wales pledged his allegiance to his father.
The second photo from the historic event sees King Charles and Queen Camilla pictured with their Pages of Honour and Ladies in Attendance.
