Jazz singer Sibongile Khumalo has died at age 63 after lengthy period of illness, her family confirm the news.
According to Tshisalive, her family confirm Sibongile’s death to the outlet, saying she passed away on Thursday evening from stroke related complications.
Her family release statement, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Sibongile Khumalo our iconic, world-celebrated South African singer, affectionately known as Ma’Mngoma (24 September 1957 – 28 January 2021).
“She will be missed by all who had the privilege of experiencing her music, her friendship and her love. Dr Sibongile Khumalo succumbed to stroke related complications after a lengthy period of illness. The family is grateful for the support and prayers during this time,”
Celebs across Mzansi and fans send their condolences to her family, remember her for her contribution to the music industry.
Radio host, Redi Tlhabi wrote these: “One of my interviews with the one and only Sibongile Khumalo, giving advice to then upcoming start, Zahara. I loved her song: O ya kae Moshanyana. She always said ‘Redi’, that songs again! I have others you know!’ oh the heart just breaks! Rest in peace.”
The icon will be remembered for her talent and her music which covered a variety of genres from, choral music, classic, jazz, musical theatre and many more.
