Masechaba Ndlovu slammed for sharing racist coronavirus video
The appointed spokesperson of arts and culture minister Nathi Mthethwa, Masechaba Ndlovu, received backlash from social media after sharing racist based video concerning coronavirus.
The video shows Valdo and Lindokuhle, talking about the importance of washing hands and maintaining good hygiene during the outbreak.
The problem was not the content but the language, the usage of the Chinese language and mimicking Chinese people’s accents was seen as racist.
The problem was instead of sharing the message in English or other South African languages, they decided to use a “fake” Asian-sounding language.
One user condemning a tone used by those who talking on video for disrespecting Chinese people.
“I appreciate all efforts being made to educate South Africans about Covid-19, but the video of father and son speaking fake Chinese is tone-deaf, cringeworthy and loaded with prejudiced rhetoric,” she said.
After the backlash, Masechaba Ndlovu deleted the video, its looks like she didn’t understand a theme of that video.
