Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumia is in Danger of Losing to “Creed III” Following box office pre-sales of $5.4 Million.

The weekend box office will be led by Michael B. Jordan’s Creed III, which will dethrone Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which was last week’s top movie. The incredibly well-reviewed third installment brought in $5.4 million from previews on Wednesday and Thursday, with Thursday accounting for 74% of the total. This puts the movie in a position to handily surpass both of its rivals and take first place in its opening weekend.

In its opening weekend, the movie was expected to make at least $36 million, with the upper end of projections set at $40 million. Achieving that goal would put Creed III ahead of the first Creed’s $29.6 million three-day opening in 2015 and Creed II’s $35.5 million opening weekend in 2018. The first Creed made $1.4 million in Tuesday previews before opening on Wednesday just before Thanksgiving, but Creed II debuted with $3.7 million on a Tuesday, also just before Thanksgiving. The sequel generated $56 million over five days, whereas Creed’s five-day opening weekend brought in $42 million.

The third movie, which stars Sylvester Stallone as the legendary fighter, has received rave reviews from critics and fans. Jordan’s Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed, competes against his boyhood friend Damien, played by Jonathan Majors, who is currently very popular. This also sets up a fascinating box office competition between two of his films this weekend that are all third movies in their franchise.
