DJ Maphorisa in Court | apprehended for allegedly assaulting Thuli Phongolo
On the past few days Sonnyboy “DJ Maphorisa” Sekowe was arrested for allegedly assaulting his partner Thuli Phongolo.
DJ Maphorisa appeared at the Randburg magistrate court on Monday 8th April.
Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed this with reporter in an official statement.
“A 35-year-old South African musician is expected to appear before Randburg magistrate’s court for allegedly assaulting his partner. The suspect was arrested on Sunday, May 7 2023, after a case of assault common was reported at Sandton police station.
“It is alleged that the suspect assaulted the victim at an apartment in Sandton on Sunday.”
According to Sunday World, Maphorisa got hold of Thuli’s neck and dragged her to the balcony of her flat on Sunday.
The paper further reports that the actress, who is his girlfriend, told the police the fight ensued when she confronted the DJ about a squabble that transpired between them at a gig on Saturday night.
“I confronted him so that we can talk about our argument, which happened the previous night during his gig. He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck,” Thuli said in a statement.
Attempts by reporter to get comments from Thuli Phongolo and DJ Maphorisa, as well as their management, were unsuccessful at the time of publishing this article. An update will be included once received.
Since 2021, videos of Thuli and Maphorisa spotted holding hands and intimately dancing together at events first sparked rumours the stars were dating.
When responding to the speculation, Thuli took to her Twitter timeline saying she is single and not dating anyone.
“Y’all stop. We’re not dating! I’m so done with you guys!” she wrote.
“And the truth remains, I’m single.”
